Kit of the Day #33: Qatar — Hosting Felt Like Yesterday

Qatar at their second consecutive World Cup but this time as a qualifier rather than the host. The maroon kit is back, the squad is more experienced, and Group B is wide open. Day 33 of Kit of the Day.

From host to qualifier in one cycle

Qatar hosted the 2022 tournament. Three and a half years later they’re back, this time having earned their place through Asian qualifying. The whole vibe of the squad is different now — less pressure, more focus on football.

The design

Rich maroon home shirt with elegant white trim from Adidas, a redesigned crest sitting central, and a minimalist sleeve cuff. The maroon is slightly deeper than the 2022 version and the overall feel is more premium, less tournament-novelty.

Who to watch

Akram Afif still pulling the strings in attack, Almoez Ali remaining the goal threat, and Meshaal Barsham reliable in goal. The core that won the 2019 Asian Cup and reached the 2023 final has stayed together — that continuity matters.

Why you should care

Group B with Canada, Switzerland and a playoff winner is a winnable group. Qatar maroon is one of the few non-traditional World Cup colours that genuinely stands out in highlight packages.
