Group I Preview: France, Senegal and Norway

France are the two-time champions and tournament favourites. Senegal have AFCON pedigree. Norway bring Haaland. Group I has goals written all over it.

Goals. Goals everywhere.

France have arguably the most attacking talent in the tournament. Senegal have pace and power across the front line. Norway have Erling Haaland. The fourth team comes from the intercontinental playoff. This group will not be boring.

France — the tournament favourites

France won the World Cup in 2018 and lost the final on penalties in 2022. They have Mbappe. They have depth everywhere. The France 2026 kit by Nike is a deep navy with a subtle tricolore detail — simple, powerful, unmistakably French.

France should win this group. But France at World Cups are unpredictable. They went out in the group stage in 2002 as defending champions. They almost went out in the groups in 2022 before Mbappe took over.

Senegal — Africa’s Lions

Senegal won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022 and have established themselves as a genuine force. They have speed on the wings, physicality in midfield, and a team spirit that is hard to play against.

The Senegal 2026 kit by Puma is one of the most distinctive in the tournament — bright green with bold patterns. They are dark horse contenders not just for this group but for the quarter-finals.

Norway — Haaland’s World Cup

Norway qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1998. The reason is simple: Erling Haaland. The Norway 2026 kit by Nike is a classic red with subtle geometric patterns.

Haaland at a World Cup is one of the biggest storylines of the tournament. If he scores freely — which he does everywhere else — Norway could shock this group.

The intercontinental playoff winner

The fourth spot goes to the winner of Intercontinental Playoff 2. Whoever qualifies will face the daunting task of competing against France, Senegal and Haaland’s Norway.

Prediction

1st: France. 2nd: Senegal. But Norway vs Senegal for second place could be the game of the group stage.
