Group H is the one nobody wants to be in
When the draw was made and Spain, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde landed in the same group, every pundit in the room knew. This is the group of death.
Two former World Cup winners. A Saudi side that stunned Argentina in the opening game of the last tournament. And Cape Verde making their first-ever World Cup appearance with nothing to lose and everything to prove.
Spain — the reigning champions of international football
Spain won the Nations League in 2025 and arrived in 2026 as one of the tournament favourites. Their midfield is arguably the best in world football. The Spain 2026 kit is a deep, saturated red that pays tribute to the 2010 generation.
They should top this group. But this is a World Cup — and Spain have a history of stumbling when it matters. They went out in the group stage in 2014 as defending champions.
Uruguay — quietly dangerous every single time
Uruguay are the definition of a World Cup team. Two-time winners. Consistently competitive far beyond what their population of 3.5 million should allow. The 2026 Uruguay kit is a clean, classic sky blue with a collar that nods to the 1950 shirt.
This is the team nobody wants to face in a must-win game. They beat everyone in qualifying. They could easily finish top of this group.
Saudi Arabia — giant-killers
The last time we saw Saudi Arabia at a World Cup, they beat Argentina 2–1 in the opening game of Qatar 2022 — one of the biggest shocks in tournament history. They have the belief, the tactical structure, and the experience to cause problems for anyone in this group.
A second-place finish from this group is absolutely within reach. If they beat Cape Verde and take points from Spain or Uruguay, they are through.
Cape Verde — the debutants
Cape Verde, an island nation of 600,000 people off the west coast of Africa, are at their first World Cup. They qualified through the expanded African pathway and arrive with nothing to lose. They play a structured, compact style that frustrates bigger teams.
A point from any game in this group would be heroic. But stranger things have happened at World Cups.
Prediction
1st: Spain. 2nd: Uruguay. But Saudi Arabia going through at Uruguay’s expense would not be a shock.
